Game Designer & Immersive Theatre Maker, Swinburne University of Technology
David is a Game Designer and Immersive Theatre Maker who tries to create and operate on the fringes of both formats.
David graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts finishing his honours in investigating how interactive theatre and game design can explore personal ethics and improve social responsibility. His practice involves making intimate immersive works that attempt to engage with moral and ethical issues found outside the theatrical space. In the style of Boal, audiences are required to engage and act as spec-actors in the work which in turn is influenced by game design theories, psychology and theatre academic Helena Grehan’s theories on ambivalence.
David has worked with companies such as One Step At A Time Like This (2017), Theatro De Los Sentidos (2016) in their Melbourne Festival show Echo of the Shadow, and the physical theatre collective The Dig Collective (2011-2015). He is a strong believer of diverse artistic practices and is constantly looking on how to expand and explore methodologies.
David has spoken for several events including PAXAus, Freeplay Festival and Play by Play Festival. David also lectures and teaches Game Design and Writing for Interactive Narratives at Swinburne University of Technology.
